Martha’s Vineyard – Vineyard Wind 1 Project’s Electrical Service Platform

Chapman Construction Group, Inc. (CCGI), based in Sandwich, MA, has been awarded and is underway with construction operations associated with the completion of offshore construction, installation and commissioning of the 800MW Vineyard Wind 1 project’s electrical service platform (ESP). The wind farm will be located approximately 14 miles southeast of Martha’s Vineyard and 35 miles off the Cape Cod peninsula. CCGI is working as a labor consultant and subcontractor with Tier 1 EPCI contractors Semco Maritime and Bladt Industries in the construction of the substation. The electrical service platform will provide electrical power generated from the Vineyard Wind project, which will be comprised of an array of 62 wind turbine generators to be installed on monopiles in water depths ranging from 121 to 181 feet in the Atlantic Ocean.

Town of Orleans, MA Downtown Collection System & Pump Station

Electrical Scope: Custom-build electrical enclosures; installation of electrical distribution panels, control wiring, VFDs, PLCs and generator to allow for pump station operation.

Unique Project Challenges: Due to supply chain delays in delivery of VFDs and electrical distribution panels, Chapman provided an interim solution for station’s pumps to operate, via installation of a “soft starter” motor controller. Teamed with general contractor in reengineering equipment pads and provided onsite installation temporary electrical distribution panels and interim control wiring.

Project Status: ongoing; completion scheduled Spring 2023

MBTA Red Line Signal Upgrade Project, Boston, MA

Electrical Contractor: CCGI serving as electrical subcontractor to primary electrical contractor, Fischbach & Moore.

Project Scope: Installation of MBTA Red Line signal upgrades from Park Street Station, Boston, MA to Quincy, MA; includes installation of cabling, signal bungalows; and wiring signals.

Keolis North Station MBTA Signal Upgrade, Boston, MA

Project Scope: Installation and testing of MBTA signal cabling for 6 new electrical bungalows.

Ted Williams Tunnel Lighting Retrofit Project, Boston, MA

Electrical Contractor: CCGI as electrical subcontractor to primary electrical contractor, JF White

Project Scope: Demolition of existing tunnel lighting to allow for installation of all new LED lighting retrofit. Project completed in 2022.

Sumner Tunnel Lighting Project, Boston, MA

Electrical Contractor: CCGI as subcontractor to primary contractor, J.F. White

Project Scope: CCGI to purchase, furnish and install LED lighting throughout the Sumner tunnel; and furnish controls. Pre-fabrication of lighting fixtures in pre-fab shop to allow for optimal project efficiency in installation.

Keolis Commuter Rail Maintenance Pump Station, Somerville, MA.

Project Scope: Turnkey control project to allow pumps to separate wastewater to be pumped from MBTA train wash-down facility to Buiding G. Comprises the installation of all electrical power and components for pump station operation, including conduits, remote panels, main frame controllers, wiring for 2 air dryers, piping and wiring of reverse osmosis (RO) skid, and 110v/208v sub-panel for all branch circuits.
